Screen tourism, or "set jetting," is a trend where travelers are influenced by film or TV shows to visit specific locations. In the UK, this trend is poised to grow in 2025. In 2015, one in five visitors to Britain were influenced by media, and by 2019, travel patterns showed a doubling of such trips in five years. Skyscanner's 2024 travel trend "main character energy" reported that nearly 50% of US outbound visitors were inspired to book travel following something they saw on screen. In 2022, Netflix found its subscribers were 2.4 times more likely to prioritize destinations seen in shows, while in 2023, Expedia noted that nearly 40% of trip bookings were due to film or TV content. VisitBritain research in 2025 highlighted that 90% of potential visitors to the UK had been influenced by film or TV. This trend has provided a £275 million boost to the British economy over the past five years. Examples of screen tourism include the "Bridgerton Effect," crime, action, family fun, sci-fi, drama, and horror genres. Organized events, group tours, and dining experiences contribute to the immersive experiences based on film or TV.
