2、e launch of the largest and fastest selling book in history,HarryPotter and the Deathly Hallows and we marketed it enthusiastically and efficiently,making the first quarter ofthe year extremely strong.We also knew that we needed to use 2008 as a kind of fulcrum year for Scholastic,for the seventh Ha
3、rryPotter was also the finale of the series.So we took several actions to reach our goal of attaining a 9 to 10 percentoperating margin by FY10.First,we built a new e-commerce system for School Book Clubs,based on the tried and true,seven year oldCOOL(Club Ordering Online)system.New COOL which will
4、launch in 2009 with a strong parent component-will enable teachers and parents to use a state-of-the-art e-commerce marketing system to order books and digitalprograms from Scholastic.Second,having further tested point-of-sale credit card machines in Book Fairs with successful results,weare expandin
5、g their use in 2009.Third,we completed development of System 44 a prequel to our established READ 180program whichblends video and interactive computer technology to teach systematic phonics to students in grades 3-12 whohave not learned to decode.This program,which is already getting an enthusiasti
6、c response from ourcustomers,will launch in November 2008.At the same time we focused our Education sales force exclusively oneducational technology and core curriculum programs,while broadening the mission of our Library sales forceto include supplementary materials.This strategic move to two sales
