FactsandFigures2020revealsthatpeopleinru

3、ralareascontinuetofacegreaterchallengesthanpeoplein urbanareasintermsofremainingconnectedduringthelockdown,especiallyindevelopingeconomies.Large swathesoftherurallandscapearestillnotcoveredbymobilebroadbandnetworks,andfewerhouseholdsin theseareashaveaccesstotheInternet. Alsoworrying,therolloutofcomm

4、unicationsinfrastructureisslowing.Sincegrowthincommunications infrastructuredeploymentwasalreadyshowingsignsofslowingin2019,itisstilltooearlytotellwhether growthhasstalledbecauseofthepandemic,orwhetherthereareotherfactorsatplay. ThisneweditionofFactsandFiguresalsofindsthatmobilecellularsubscriptions

5、havebeendecliningforthe firsttimeinhistory,andthatgrowthinmobilebroadbandsubscriptionsislevellingout.Here,asbefore,itis notcertainifthisaresultoftheCOVID-19crisis:itwillbeinterestingtoseewhathappensoncetheworld finallyrevertstoamorenormalstateofaffairs. Onamoreoptimisticnote,ourresearchconfirmsthat,

6、whereconnectivityisavailable,andaffordable,young peopleareenthusiasticadoptersoftechnologyandhaverelativelyhighlevelsofInternetuse.Whileoverall justoverhalfoftheglobalpopulationisusingtheInternet,amongyoungpeopleaged15to24thisrisesto almost70percent.Thisisparticularlyencouraginginviewofthefast-growi
