3、gigaton industryForewordHalting climate change should be everyones business.That means putting an end to planet-warming emissions at a pace and scale far greater than seen so far.It also means scaling up CO2 removal(CDR).Limiting warming to 1.5C is an incredibly ambitious goaland yet a vital one.To

4、achieve the goal would require halving emissions globally before this decade is out.By the time two more decades are out,we must get to net-zero CO2,using CDR to balance out any remaining emissions.We can ill afford to reach net zero too late.But if we do,CDR becomes an even more important tool in t

5、he survival kit for our descendants.In January 2023,I helped author the first edition of The state of carbon dioxide removal,an independent scientific assessment of global progress on CDR.We quantified the challenge:novel CDR methods,in particular,should increase by 2030 by a factor of 30or even 540
