5、oned,wind and solar generation alone will not be sufficient to fill the resulting gap,despite the rapid rise in renewables.The intermittent nature of wind and solar and the lack of viable energy storage mechanisms highlights the urgent need for low-carbon sources of continuous baseload generation to
6、 power an increasingly electrified world.Nuclear power should be the primary option for filling this need,but the combination of an aging fleet of reactors,substantial cost and time overruns on new plants,and safety fears have held back its widespread deployment.Small modular reactors(SMRs)provide a
