2、nnectivity needs?2Introduction5G RedCap white paper|Is 5G RedCap the right fit for your IoT connectivity needs?With 2G and 3G networks sunsetting across the globe,theres a need for a cost-effective cellular alternative to provide IoT devices with the connectivity they need.The new and expensive opti
3、on of full 5G is impractical for many IoT use cases and in many markets,5G network infrastructure is still not deployed.That will change over time as more networks are built and costs come down thanks to economies of scale but,for a substantial portion of the IoT market,full 5G simply isnt necessary
4、.Today this market is served effectively by 4G cellular alternatives such as LTE Cat 1 and Cat 1 bis and by narrowband-IoT(NB-IoT)and Cat M1 for use cases that have lower bandwidth requirements.Each of these has strengths and weaknesses,which can be balanced against the priorities of use cases,but g
5、reater choice is needed so organizations can choose tightly targeted connectivity that meets their power consumption,cost,latency and capacity requirements.This is where 5G reduced capacity or RedCap comes in.The technology in essence provides a lighter version of 5G,delivering some of the speeds an
