高温超导材料所需温度临界值较高,第二代高温超导带材目前已成为行业重点发展方向。超导材料,是指具有在一定的低温条件下呈现出电阻等于零以及排斥磁力线的性质的材料,分为低温超导材料和高温超导材料。其中低温超导是指在-269℃(4K)的液氦环境中,超导所具有的特性。但由于需要液氦极低温度条件下才能使用,极大地限制了低温超导材料的应用,科学家始终对于在进行对高温超导体的探索;高温超导所需的温度相对低温超导所需的超低温高许多,通常至少要在-194℃(20~77 K)左右的超导材料。1986年,高温超导体的发现,使得铋锶钙铜氧(BSCCO)超导材料得到了深入的研究,并在多个超导样机与示范线中得以应用,但 BSCCO 材料本身的特性及原料成本限制了其大规模应用。2000 年以后,我国科研人员在第 2 代的高温超导材料的研发取得重大进展,研发出由稀土(Rare Earth,Re)、钡(Ba)、铜(Cu)、氧(O)元素组成的第 2 代的高温超导材料,统写为 ReBCO。不同于第一代高温超导线材的粉末套管法给予超导材料必要的强度和结晶度,第二代高温超导带材在薄的金属基带上使用涂层技术外延生长超导薄膜,可以在较高的温度与磁场下使用,在性能上具有明显优势,同时随着工艺的成熟以及第二代高温超导带材所需银材料非常少,成本也有望低于 BSCCO,因而成为新的研究重点。
