蛋氨酸的工业生产方法包括海因法和氰醇法,均需使用天然气及其下游制品作为生产原料。蛋氨酸属于含硫氨基酸,其与人体和动物的细胞信号转导、核酸和蛋白质合成及很多生理生化过程密切相关,是动物合成体蛋白和参与抗氧化过程的必需氨基酸,且无法自身合成,属于禽类第一限制性氨基酸。按形态分类,目前饲料中使用的蛋氨酸分固态和液态两种,液态蛋氨酸比固态更容易加工处理,且拥有更低的成本和更高的使用效率。目前全球主要采用海因法和氰醇法来工业化生产蛋氨酸,海因法和氰醇法的原料及线路基本相同,均需要使用天然气及丙烯、甲醇等天然气的下游制品作为原材料。海因法和氰醇法前几步生产甲硫醇(MSH)、丙烯醛、甲硫基丙醛(TPMA)的工艺基本相同,只是在最终生产蛋氨酸时采用了不同的缩合、水和、水解的工艺线路,其副产品也不相同。海因法合成工艺产品成本低、流程简单、自动化程度高、副产物可循环,环化反应收率接近 100%,总收率也高达 80%以上,但只能生产固态蛋氨酸;采用海因法生产工艺的厂家主要有安迪苏、德国赢创、日本曹达、住友等。氰醇法生产工艺是用 TPMA 与氢氰酸合成氰醇,氰醇再经硫酸水解,可以生成液体蛋氨酸并副产硫酸氨;采用氰醇法生产工艺的厂家主要有法国安迪苏、日本诺伟司、新和成、曾经的美国孟山都等。
